Foundation Manuel António da Mota Mexico and UNICEF México entered into a two-year cooperation agreement, in order to help over 12.000 children in emergency situations in the most vulnerable communities in Guerrero, Jalisco and Oaxaca. This aid is implemented by means of initiatives which create safe support spaces for learning purposes, thus engaging children, adolescents, families and teachers.
Carlos Martins, in charge of Mota-Engil in Mexico, points out that ‘our mission as a Group is also contributing to the full development of the communities where we operate. In Mexico, we are committed to focus on programmes which have a positive impact on social environment through education and culture’.
Isabel Crowley, representative of UNICEF in Mexico, stated that ‘we are excited with this partnership, as it helps children live safe, in peace and more protected in the event of an emergency’.
It should be recalled that the States of Guerrero, Oaxaca and Jalisco were already severely struck by hurricanes, floods and landslides and therefore it is important that the community knows how to respond and protect children. The partnership with Foundation Manuel António da Mota thus enables increasing the number of activities and trainings that UNICEF’s emergency plans foresee to avoid more tragic situations.
