Completed the Tailings Dam project in Brazil

The Minas-Rio tailings dam project awarded to ECB in February 2011 was completed in November.

With a maximum height of 40 metres, a 400 metre crest, a volume of 1, 355, 000 cubic metres and a structure for discharge of the dam which involved the application of 8, 200 cubic metres of cement, the dam was constructed in compliance with the most rigorous quality and safety standards.

This is a fundamental structure for Anglo-American’s Minas-Rio iron-ore mining project in Conceição do Mato Dentro and which is designed to have an initial production capacity of 26, 5 million tons per year.

At a cost of more than 110 million “reais” almost 34 million euros – the contract was completed in 1010 days without a single accident which was duly recognized by Angloamerican.
