In the first six months, the Mota-Engil Group registered strong growth in its business in Africa and Latin America, as the markets outside Portugal amounted to 70% of the turnover and 80% of the order book.
In his presentation of the results, the Group’s CEO, Gonçalo Moura Martins, didn’t hesitate in highlighting that Mota-Engil had “the best half year ever from the point of view of operating results”. In the first half of 2013, the Mota-Engil Group registered a growth of 7.3% in its turnover, which was 1.04 billion euros, and a significant growth in EBITDA (30%) to 161.7 million euros and EBIT (31%) to 101.9 million euros.
With this solid operating performance, the Group had a net result of 20.7 million euros, up 13% year on year, an amount that exceeded market expectations in a clear sign of resilience to the European crisis in the sector and demonstrating a commercial capacity to conquer new markets and improve operating efficiency. In a sector where the order book is an important barometer of the sustainability of a business, the Group’s order book was valued at 3.561 billion euros, Africa being the major contributor, and the Latin American region also standing out, with its largest amount ever, over 1 billion euros.
