The project, worth some 60 million euros, aims widening the Northern Bypass around Kampala, the capital of Uganda.
Mota-Engil Africa was awarded its first contract in Uganda. Following successful debuts in Zimbabwe, Zambia and Ghana in 2013, Mota-Engil Africa proves the strength of its strategy of expansion in the region which will not be limited to these markets according to the statements from the CEO, Gonçalo Moura Martins, in March.
The project itself is the result of a public contract awarded to Mota-Engil worth some 60 million euros for the widening of the Northern Bypass around Kampala, the capital of Uganda, with an estimated time for completion of 30 months.
Concerning the project, the country manager, Francisco Franca states that the contract “was won not only due to its financial aspects but also the technical experience gained by Mota-Engil in this type of infrastructure project. As a project jointly financed by the EU and the government of Uganda, safety requirements are fundamental to the success of the contract as well as the conformity of all of the technical solutions with those applied by Mota-Engil in all of its contracts in Africa.”
The prospects for new projects and the development of operations in this new market, according to Francisco Franca, are encouraging and he is certain that “in the near future we will be involved in major projects in other areas of infrastructure which will contribute to the development and stabilization of the business in Uganda as well as in other countries in the region of East Africa.”
