The Wellness Program was built on the basis of three pillars of action, which complement each other and allow for progressively more specific interventions in the universe of the Mota-Engil Group. This approach enables an increasingly in-depth understanding of individual needs within the Group, facilitating targeted interventions when necessary.
The main objective of the program is the identification and prevention of psychosocial risks, as well as the development of actions to mitigate them, promoting the creation of a culture of well-being, transversal to all levels of the Organization and with a special focus on top management, given the impact that leadership has on the psychological health of employees. It is intended to increase not only the mental health literacy of the employees of the Mota-Engil Group, but also to provide strategies to, in their routine, have better mental health and manage psychosocial risks more effectively.
Pillars of the Program:
Diagnosis – Assessment of the general psychological health status of the Mota-Engil Group.
Education – Increased literacy and prevention of the development of health problems.
Psychological support – Control of existing problems.
The official launch of the program took place on October 10, 2023, World Mental Health Day, with two Inspirational Sessions on Organizational Happiness being held and a mandatory online Mental Health induction for new employees was launched (and is also available for the rest).
For the assessment of psychosocial risks, a pilot project was initiated with three companies of the Group, in order to promote and standardize the assessment and management of this type of risk. Additionally, the Group, in addition to joining ASM – Alliance for the Promotion of Mental Health in the Workplace, has participated in webinars/seminars on the subject, both as a speaker and as a participant, namely: Happiness Camp, Catholic Mental Health Summit, 1st National Congress on Mental Health in the Workplace, 1st Conference on Mental Health – Taking care of the mind is investing in companies and Recovery Summit – II International Congress.
Within these activities, the “Happiness Angels” training was held in October 2023 for SHEQ and Human Resources focal points. This training aimed to empower these employees with knowledge in terms of psychological health, empathy and communication, so that they can actively and proactively contribute to building a culture of well-being. In December, training was held for the Group’s top management on the impact of leadership on mental health and direct ways in which management contributes to the well-being of the company and employees.
Also noteworthy is the launch of the WellME program – psychological counseling service of the Wellness Program in four pilot markets. This began on October 10, 2024 with an official communication from Chairman and CEO Carlos Mota Santos and Vice CEO Manuel Mota of the Mota-Engil Group, in a reflection on the importance and need to destigmatize it. Clarification sessions were also held with the directors of the pilot companies, SHEQ focal points and HR on the implementation of this service, which took place in early November 2024.
